The Magic of Toverlux
The Story Behind Toverlux
The gentle world of Toverlux began with a friendship. The brand was founded by Femke and Annefleur, two lifelong friends and mothers who share a deep appreciation for childhood, creativity, and the quiet beauty found in everyday moments. Their shared experiences of friendship, motherhood and family life slowly shaped the vision that would eventually become Toverlux.
Annefleur lives in the historic Dutch town of Naarden-Vesting, a place that feels almost like a fairytale itself. Her creativity is deeply influenced by storytelling, nature and the principles often found within Waldorf education. Through her artistic work she explores themes of wonder, imagination and the rhythm of the seasons, bringing warmth and feeling into the images that inspire the Toverlux silhouettes.

Femke, based in Amsterdam, complements this creative spirit with a practical and thoughtful approach to design and making. With a natural ability to turn ideas into tangible objects, she helped transform early artistic experiments into beautifully crafted pieces that families could bring into their homes.
The beginnings of Toverlux were not driven by business ambitions, but by a deeply personal journey. During a challenging period of motherhood, Annefleur discovered wool as a new way to express feelings that words could not easily capture. Through creating soft wool artworks, she began to shape a quiet and magical visual world for her children.
One day, a small light was placed behind one of these creations. The colours seemed to glow and the image came alive. That simple moment of illumination sparked an idea that would grow into something much larger.
With Femke’s support and technical skill, the concept slowly developed into the wooden lamps and illuminated silhouettes that are now recognised as Toverlux. Rooted in friendship, creativity and a love for gentle storytelling, the brand continues to celebrate light, imagination and the changing seasons of childhood.

A Philosophy of Light, Rhythm and Wonder

At the heart of Toverlux lies a quiet invitation to slow down and notice the small, meaningful moments that shape family life. Rather than rushing through the day, the Toverlux approach encourages families to pause, gather together, and create simple rituals that bring warmth and connection into the home.
The softly glowing lamps are designed to accompany many of childhood’s everyday moments, lighting a birthday breakfast table, adding atmosphere to bedtime stories, or bringing gentle light to creative afternoons indoors. As the seasons change, new silhouettes can be introduced, allowing the lamp to reflect the rhythms of nature and the celebrations that unfold throughout the year.
Toverlux creations are thoughtfully designed to remain part of family life for many years. The aim is not simply to make decorative objects, but to create pieces that become familiar and meaningful over time - items that grow alongside children and hold memories as the years pass.
Inspired by nature and Waldorf values, each wooden lamp is carefully crafted using responsibly sourced materials. With attention to both beauty and sustainability, Toverlux pieces are made with care for families and for the wider world.
Using Toverlux in Seasonal Celebrations

Many families enjoy marking the changing seasons through small rituals at home. The soft glow of a Toverlux lamp can become a quiet focal point for these moments, gently reflecting the rhythms of the year as they unfold.
By changing the silhouettes throughout the seasons, the lamp can mirror the world outside the window. Blossoms and birds might welcome the arrival of spring, warm sunlit scenes can celebrate the fullness of summer, while autumn brings golden leaves and harvest imagery. In winter, the gentle light of the lamp creates a calm and cosy atmosphere that feels especially comforting during darker evenings.
These seasonal changes can become small but meaningful traditions within family life. A new silhouette might be added to the lamp at the start of a season, during a festival, or as part of a simple family ritual. Children often look forward to these changes, noticing how the images shift throughout the year.
In this way, the lamp becomes more than a decorative object. It quietly helps families stay connected to the natural world, encouraging children to notice the passing of time, the beauty of the seasons, and the comforting rhythm that returns again and again each year.
Why Families Love Toverlux Lamps

There is something quietly special about the gentle light of a Toverlux lamp. Rather than bright artificial lighting, these lamps create a soft and calming glow that feels warm and peaceful within the home.
Many parents choose Toverlux lamps for children’s spaces because they help create a comforting atmosphere. The softly illuminated silhouettes invite children to pause, notice details, and imagine the stories unfolding within the scene. Whether placed on a bedside table, a seasonal display, or a quiet corner of the playroom, the lamp offers a sense of calm presence.
Another reason families appreciate Toverlux is the flexibility of the silhouettes themselves. The images can be changed easily, allowing the lamp to reflect favourite stories, the changing seasons, or meaningful family celebrations. This simple act of changing the scene often becomes something children enjoy participating in.
Because the lamps are made from wood and thoughtfully designed, they also fit naturally into homes that value simple, sustainable materials. Many families find that the lamp becomes part of daily rhythms - glowing during bedtime stories, lighting darker afternoons in winter, or quietly marking seasonal changes throughout the year.
Over time, the lamp often becomes something deeply familiar within the home, holding memories of childhood moments along the way.
The Artists Behind the Toverlux Silhouettes

One of the most enchanting aspects of Toverlux is the community of artists whose work brings each illuminated scene to life. Rather than being created by a single illustrator, the growing collection of Toverlux silhouettes features artwork from a number of talented artists, each with their own distinctive style and perspective.
These illustrators draw inspiration from nature, storytelling, childhood memories, and the gentle rhythm of the seasons. Some create peaceful woodland scenes filled with animals and quiet moments in nature, while others explore fairytales, celebrations, and the small everyday wonders of family life.
When placed inside a Toverlux lamp, their artwork is softly illuminated, allowing the colours and details of each silhouette to glow warmly. The result is a series of changing scenes that can accompany bedtime stories, seasonal celebrations, and quiet moments throughout the day.
Together, these artists help create a rich and varied collection of silhouettes, offering families many different images to explore as their lamp becomes part of the rhythm of home life.
