The Grimm’s 12 Piece Rainbow is a beautiful invitation to open-ended, imaginative play. With its twelve curved wooden arches in rich, vibrant colours, it becomes whatever a child needs it to be in the moment. There are no rules, no instructions, and no fixed outcome—just endless possibility.
They base the development of their toys on the philosophy of Waldorf Education. Their wooden toys are designed to help children discover and develop their own creativity and sensory awareness with products that want to be touched again and again which communicate their credo: Joy through colour!
For younger children, the rainbow is a wonderful tool for stacking, nesting, balancing, and sorting. Little hands instinctively explore size, sequence, and symmetry while building towers or lining the arches from smallest to largest. As they experiment, they strengthen fine motor skills, coordination, and spatial awareness through joyful, hands-on discovery.
As children grow, the rainbow transforms effortlessly. The arches become bridges for cars, tunnels for trains, fences for farm animals, cradles for dolls, or cozy homes for little figures. They form rolling hills, magical fairy landscapes, or dramatic mountain scenes. Turned on their sides, they become boats rocking on imaginary seas. Stood upright, they inspire sculptural creations and imaginative architecture limited only by creativity.
Because the pieces are open-ended, children return to them again and again, discovering new possibilities at every stage of development. The rainbow adapts to storytelling, small-world adventures, and inventive construction play. Simple yet extraordinary, it grows alongside your child, offering years of meaningful, imaginative play filled with colour, wonder, and possibility.

Why can the rainbow only be stacked in one direction?
Our organically designed Rainbow is hand-sawn from one single piece of wood which requires a lot of experience to do this work free hand. This leads to an asymmetrical construction, resulting in a more pleasant, natural appeal in comparison to using precise, symmetric stencils. Therefore, individual arcs may need to be rotated to obtain a perfect fit! It is exactly what makes our toy so special and each one unique.
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH YOUR PURCHASE:
The following are normal characteristics of the Grimm's Rainbow, and are not considered a fault. Please consider these careful before purchasing:
- It is normal for the bows to be varying widths, some may be thicker than others, and some bows may vary in width over the length of the bow.
- Visible grain and knots and both normal characteristic of the rainbow which are cut from a single slice of tree truck. Sometimes the natural grain can be dark and patchy in areas.
- It is normal for the colour staining to have variations, on the inside centre of the rainbow there is often less staining, and there can be areas where the natural oils in the wood cause a speckled or patchy affect to the staining.
- Grimm's use a stain on their wooden toys rather than a lacquer - it is normal for some colour transfer to occur during play. Non-lacquered wood has a lovely texture - the rough texture of the stained wood is not only an important tactile sensory experience for children, but those rough surfaces make it possible to build in more ways.
