Grimm's Set of Wooden Balls - Rainbow
The Grimm's Rainbow Set of Wooden Balls is a beautifully simple addition to open-ended wooden play. Crafted from solid maple wood and stained with certified non-toxic, water-based colour, each ball retains the natural warmth and texture of the wood. Grimm’s avoids lacquer and paint, preserving both safety and sensory integrity in line with Waldorf and Montessori principles.
Each set includes six wooden balls, 4.5 cm in diameter — perfectly sized for small hands to grasp, roll, and guide.
These rainbow balls are especially engaging when paired with the Grimm's 12 Piece Rainbow. Children intuitively discover how to build simple and complex ball runs, experimenting with height, angle, speed, and distance. As they adjust the arches to guide the rolling balls, they explore early physics concepts through direct experience.
They also integrate beautifully with large marble runs, building sets, and sorting activities. Children can match colours, practice counting, explore sequencing, or create patterns. Rolling the balls across different surfaces invites sensory discovery and coordination development.
This is the kind of toy that evolves naturally with your child’s abilities - from simple rolling and grasping at age one to more intricate constructions in later years. Thoughtfully made and intentionally chosen, these wooden balls encourage focused play, problem-solving, and creativity grounded in natural materials. Grimm's toys are inspired by the principles of Waldorf Steiner and are designed with the intention of helping children discover and develop their own creativity through simplicity of shapes, leaving plenty of room for independent play and imagination. Inspired by the educational philosophies of Rudolf Steiner, Grimm's puzzles, building sets, and toys are about the rainbow, happy colors, creativity, and the imagination. There are no instructions, and you can do no wrong with a Grimm's toy. Just play, learn, and enjoy.
Please note: as Grimm's uses non-lacquered wood, some paint transfer can occur during play. This is considered normal. Non-lacquered wood has a lovely texture - the rough texture of the stained wood is not only an important tactile sensory experience for children, but those rough surfaces makes it possible to build in many different ways, because the parts do not slide down so easily as the wood surface is still natural and not covered with a layer of bright enamel; however if you are concerned about paint transfer we suggest you purchase another item that is lacquered to be on the safe side.
