Natursutten: Natural, Safe, and Sustainable for Babies and the Earth
We have been stocking Natursutten since 2008, and it was one of the very first brands we chose when we opened our shop. In those early days, we were even in direct contact with Anne-Dorthe herself, which made the connection feel all the more personal. It never felt like simply bringing in a product. It felt like sharing something we truly believed in.
At the same time, Natursutten became part of our own family life. I used their natural rubber pacifiers with all three of my exclusively breastfed babies, and they were, quite simply, a godsend. With my eldest, we were living in London, relying entirely on public transport. Those early days were filled with bus journeys, train rides, and even a long-distance flight in his first months. The Natursutten pacifier became a small but constant comfort, helping to soothe, settle, and bring calm in moments that could otherwise feel overwhelming. As a new mother, there was something deeply reassuring about knowing exactly what he was using. Free from plastic, free from unnecessary chemicals, just a simple, natural material that I could trust completely.

About Natursutten
Natursutten was founded in 2006 by Anne-Dorthe, a mother of three who set out to find a simpler, safer alternative to conventional baby products.
Like many parents, she became increasingly concerned about the chemicals often found in everyday items for babies, especially those designed to be held, chewed, and used daily. Wanting something more natural and trustworthy, she began searching for better options, only to discover how limited they were at the time. Natursutten was created from that need, a desire to offer babies a more gentle, natural start and to give parents complete confidence in the products they choose.
The name itself reflects this philosophy. In Danish, “Natursutten” translates to “natural pacifier,” a simple idea that remains at the heart of the brand. Today, Natursutten is known for its thoughtfully designed baby products made from carefully chosen, natural materials. Pacifiers, teethers, and bottle teats are crafted from pure natural rubber sourced from the Hevea brasiliensis tree, while baby bottles are made from durable borosilicate glass.
All products are designed in Denmark and made in Europe, with rubber items handcrafted in Italy and glass bottles produced in France by specialists in pharmaceutical-grade glass. Every detail reflects a commitment to safety, sustainability, and simplicity, creating products that are not only gentle for babies, but kinder to the world they are growing into.
Nearly two decades on, Natursutten remains rooted in its original purpose, to provide high-quality, toxin-free essentials that support a more natural, mindful approach to early childhood, something we have trusted in both our shop and our own home from the very beginning.
“The media is full of stories about toxic baby gear, recalls and harmful plastics. As a new mother, I thought about how many hours my son was going to have a pacifier in his mouth, and I was determined to find a truly safe alternative. I felt I owed that to my child and other babies around the world – to do better.” – Anne-Dorthe Schroeder Grum | Founder, Natursutten®
Materials and Sustainability
Natural Rubber
Natursutten pacifiers, teethers, and bottle teats are made from pure natural rubber sourced from the Hevea brasiliensis tree. The rubber is carefully processed to remove proteins that on rare occasions can provoke a latex allergy, making these products safe for all babies.
Each Natursutten pacifier is handcrafted in Italy alongside the Natursutten teat in a family-run factory that has been making rubber baby products for three generations. Every pacifier is molded in one piece, without joints or seams, ensuring exceptional hygiene. There are no cracks or crevices where dirt or bacteria can accumulate. The pacifier shield is thoughtfully designed larger than conventional shields, helping to protect babies from squeezing the flexible material into their mouths.
Natural rubber is soft, resilient, and completely free from plastics, BPA, phthalates, and artificial additives. Because it comes from a renewable resource, using it supports a more sustainable cycle of production, letting families choose products that are safer for their babies and kinder to the environment.
Glass
Natursutten baby bottles are made from high-quality borosilicate glass, renowned for its durability, clarity, and resistance to thermal shock. Each bottle is crafted in France in a factory that has specialized in producing pharmaceutical-grade glass for over 50 years, ensuring the highest standards of safety and precision.
Borosilicate glass is naturally free from BPA, phthalates, and other harmful chemicals, giving parents peace of mind. The smooth, non-porous surface is easy to clean, hygienic, and resistant to scratches or staining.
Glass is a sustainable choice for baby feeding products. It is fully recyclable, long-lasting, and preserves the purity and taste of milk and formula. Combined with Natursutten’s carefully designed silicone or natural rubber teats, these bottles provide a safe, eco-conscious feeding experience that supports both babies and the environment.
Safety
Natursutten pacifiers are designed with your baby’s health and hygiene as a top priority. Each pacifier is made from a single mold, with no joints or cracks where dirt or bacteria can accumulate. Unlike standard pacifiers that often have hard-to-clean crevices, Natursutten ensures a cleaner, safer option for your little one. The larger pacifier shield adds an extra layer of protection, preventing babies from squeezing the flexible material into their mouths.
The natural rubber used in Natursutten pacifiers is carefully processed to remove the proteins that on rare occasions can provoke a latex allergy. This means parents can use the pacifiers with confidence, knowing there is no risk of latex-related reactions. The rubber is naturally soft, follows the natural mouth movements of babies, and does not leave marks on the face.
Natursutten products are free from artificial colours, chemical softeners, parabens, PVC, BPA, phthalates, hormone-disrupting substances, and cancer-causing chemicals. Every piece is 100% non-toxic, making them a safe, gentle, and reliable choice for babies.
All Natursutten pacifiers are EN 1400-certified, meeting the European Union directive for safety, health, and environmental standards. They are continuously tested by ConsumerLab, an independent laboratory in Denmark, and also comply with U.S. CPSIA requirements, Australian and New Zealand safety standards, and strict Japanese regulations. This rigorous, global testing ensures that Natursutten pacifiers meet the highest safety standards wherever they are used.
Which Pacifier Size and Style Do I Choose?

All Natursutten pacifiers are available in three guiding sizes:
- S (0-6 months)

FAQ's About Natursutten
Why does the pacifier shield touch my baby’s nose?
The larger shield on the Natursutten® Original pacifier is designed to gently rest against your baby’s nose, providing a sense of security similar to breastfeeding.
If your baby prefers a different fit, the Natursutten® Butterfly pacifier has a cut-out shield that creates more space around the nose while still offering comfort and support.
How long can a Natursutten pacifier be used?
Natursutten® pacifiers should be replaced every 6 to 8 weeks. Always check the pacifier carefully before each use and discard it at the first sign of wear or damage. Over time, the nipple may darken or become slightly sticky. If you notice any peeling or other signs of deterioration, replace the pacifier immediately.
How should I care for the pacifier?
Before using the pacifier for the first time, sterilize it by placing it in boiling water for five minutes. Be careful that it doesn’t touch the bottom of the pot.
For everyday cleaning, wash the pacifier under running water using mild liquid soap. For a deeper clean, you can place it in a strainer and pour boiling water over it.
Do not boil the pacifier again or leave it to cool in the water. Because it is made from natural rubber, it is not suitable for the dishwasher, and we do not recommend using sterilizers.
Can a baby with a latex allergy use a Natursutten pacifier?
Natursutten® pacifiers are made from natural rubber with the proteins that can occasionally trigger a latex allergy removed. This means they are generally safe and do not cause latex allergies in most cases. However, for a child with a confirmed latex allergy, we do not recommend using any product made from natural rubber.
What colour should a new Natursutten pacifier be?
Natursutten® pacifiers are made from natural, organic rubber, so each one can vary slightly in colour—just like no two apples are exactly the same. Some pacifiers may be light yellow, others a deeper amber, and some may appear more transparent or milky. These natural variations are normal and intentional. No artificial dyes or chemicals are added to standardize the colour.
How do I select the right size, shield, and nipple shape for my baby?
Babies have unique preferences, so Natursutten pacifiers are offered in different sizes and styles to suit individual needs.
The pacifiers come in three recommended sizes:
- S: 0–6 months
- M: 6–12 months
- L: 12 months and older
These age ranges are only guidelines. Some babies may find a slightly larger or smaller nipple more comfortable depending on their personal preference.
Why does my Natursutten pacifier have a whitish layer?
After the first sterilization, the pacifier may develop a whitish coating on the surface. This is harmless mineral scale from the water and can make the pacifier appear dull. It is more common in areas with hard water, even if you follow all care instructions. This coating is completely harmless to your baby and the pacifier is safe to continue using.
Why does my pacifier darken over time?
It’s normal for a Natursutten® pacifier to become darker with use. Made from 100% natural rubber, it contains no chemicals or preservatives to maintain its original light orange colour. This natural darkening is expected and does not affect the safety or quality of the pacifier.
What happens if I leave my pacifier to cool in boiling water?
Leaving your Natursutten® pacifier to cool in boiling water can cause scale from the water to stick to the surface, making it appear dull. This is completely harmless and will disappear with normal use.
Avoid boiling the pacifier again after the initial sterilisation, as repeated boiling can cause the rubber to age faster and become sticky. For everyday cleaning, simply wash under running water with a mild liquid soap. For a deeper clean, place the pacifier in a strainer and pour boiling water over it.
Is it safe?
Yes. All Natursutten® pacifiers meet the EN 1400 standard, ensuring compliance with European Union safety, health, and environmental requirements. They undergo regular testing by ConsumerLab, a respected independent laboratory in Denmark.
In addition, Natursutten® pacifiers are tested to meet U.S. CPSIA standards, Australian and New Zealand regulations, and strict safety standards in Japan. This ensures that your baby is using a product that is consistently safe, non-toxic, and carefully monitored across multiple regions.
Why choose a glass bottle over plastic or metal?
Glass is a safer option for feeding your baby. Unlike plastic, it does not leach chemicals such as BPA or BPS into milk or juice. It also resists scratches, which can harbor bacteria, unlike plastic. Glass is environmentally friendly too, as it is reusable and recyclable, whereas plastic bottles often end up in landfills. Additionally, glass does not retain any unpleasant plastic or metallic taste.
Where are Natursutten bottles and components made?
The natural rubber nipples, along with the plastic cap, ring, seal, and anti-colic double-valve, are all crafted in Italy. The borosilicate glass bottles are made in France. The plastic components are made from polypropylene (PP). We continue to explore ways to reduce plastic use and make our products more eco-friendly and biodegradable.
How should I wash or sterilize the bottle before first use?
Before using, sterilize the bottle and all parts. The glass bottle and plastic components (excluding the natural rubber nipple) can be boiled, sterilized, or placed in a sterilizing solution. The nipples should be sterilized for 5 minutes in boiling water.
How do I clean it for everyday use?
Daily cleaning can be done by sterilizing, boiling, or using a sterilizing solution for the glass bottle and plastic parts. The natural rubber nipple should be hand-washed under cold running water with mild liquid soap. Avoid using sterilizers or boiling the nipple repeatedly, as this can damage the rubber.
Are the bottles microwave-safe?
The glass bottle and plastic components can be microwaved safely. The natural rubber nipple should never be microwaved. If you heat liquid in the microwave, remove the nipple and cap, shake the liquid well afterward to avoid hot spots, and always test the temperature before feeding.
What material are the Natursutten bottle nipples made from?
The nipples are made from 100% natural rubber sourced from the Hevea brasiliensis tree and are produced in the same Italian facility as the Natursutten pacifiers.
What does “thermal shock-resistant” mean?
Thermal shock-resistant glass can handle sudden temperature changes—from boiling to freezing—without breaking. Natursutten bottles are made from high-quality, pharmaceutical-grade borosilicate glass, which is more durable and purer than standard soda-lime glass. This allows safe transitions from freezer to refrigerator to warm water.
What safety certifications do Natursutten bottles have?
Natursutten products undergo extensive safety testing by ConsumerLab in Denmark. The bottles and nipples comply with European standard EN14350, U.S. CPSIA 2008, and 16 CFR 1500 regulations.
Do Natursutten bottles have a venting system?
Yes, they feature an anti-colic double-valve to help reduce gas and colic by ensuring a smoother milk flow during feeding.
Are there different nipple flows available?
Yes, Natursutten nipples come in Slow-Flow and Fast-Flow, sold separately in 2-packs.
How do I tell Slow-Flow from Fast-Flow nipples?
Slow-Flow nipples have a single hole, while Fast-Flow nipples have a Y-shaped hole. Packaging also clearly identifies the flow type.
Will other nipples fit Natursutten bottles?
Most standard-sized nipples will fit. Wide-neck bottles, however, are not compatible.
Can Natursutten natural rubber nipples fit other bottles?
Yes, our natural rubber nipples are compatible with most standard-sized bottles when used with the anti-colic double-valve. They do not fit wide-neck bottles.
