The Grapat Loose Parts Rainbow Rings sets feature a collection of wooden rings in six vibrant rainbow colours, designed to complement other Grapat play sets or be enjoyed on their own.

These versatile loose parts can be used in a variety of ways, encouraging children to sort, match, stack, align, post, or transport them, sparking creativity and learning at every stage of development. They can also be combined with other loose parts or Grapat Nins for even more play possibilities.

A valuable resource for early childhood education, these wooden rings are popular in Montessori and Waldorf environments for activities like counting, colour matching, threading, and more. Loose parts play fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and imaginative exploration.

Suitable for children 18 months and older, each ring has a diameter of 4.7cm. Handcrafted from natural wood and stained with water-based dyes, each piece has its own unique grain and colour variations, making them beautifully individual. As with all wooden toys, they may show signs of wear with time and use.

The theory of “loose parts” was first proposed by architect Simon Nicholson in the 1970's. Nicholson believed that it is the 'loose parts' in our environment that will empower our creativity. In a play, loose parts are materials that can be moved, carried, combined, redesigned, lined up, and taken apart and put back together in multiple ways. They are materials with no specific set of directions that can be used alone or combined with other materials. Loose parts can be natural or synthetic.

Having "loose parts" available in a play space allows children to use these materials as they choose. Often you will find that children would rather play with materials that they can use and adapt as they please, rather than toys that have a single purpose. Encouraging children to use resources as they choose can provide a wider range of opportunities than one that is purely adult led.  When children play with loose parts are using creativity and imagination and developing skill and competence.

About The Brand: Grapat is a family-run venture born from a desire to leave city life behind and embrace the tranquility of nature. Their toys are designed without instructions, encouraging open-ended play and allowing children to unleash their imagination. Each piece is carefully handmade in their small workshop nestled in the hills of the Pyrenean mountains in Catalunya.

Grapat focuses on creating toys that support free, independent play. Their guiding principle is to allow children to enjoy slow, timeless moments of play. The materials they use are selected to inspire and nurture creativity, with each product crafted using traditional methods. Natural dyes bring out the wood’s unique grains, while vibrant waxes and oils give each piece a soft, gentle sheen.
